How 911 Call Routing Works
Behind the scenes of an emergency call.
Step 1
Call Initiation
When you dial 9-1-1, the call is sent through your service provider's network.
Step 2
Selective Routing
The system uses your location (cell tower or GPS) to determine the correct PSAP serving your area.
Step 3
PSAP Delivery
The call rings at the regional Public Safety Answering Point with your ANI/ALI data.
Step 4
Dispatch
The call-taker gathers information and dispatches the appropriate emergency responders via CAD.
